Good Food Guide 2019

Mon 8th Oct

We're delighted to be included once again in the Good Food Guide!

Here's what they say:

Despite some recent refurbishment, there's no mistaking the antiquity of Blackfriars Restaurant – a Grade I-listed adjunct to a medieval priory and once the refectory for cloistered Dominican 'blackfriars'.

Fast-forward eight centuries and the kitchen now deploys a full quota of regional ingredients for modern British dishes, perhaps smoked haddock brandade cakes; duck 'ham' with rhubarb marmalade and broad bean croquette; or rare-breed pork with truffle mash. For traditionalists, there's game pie or dry-aged Northumberland sirloin.

After that, a slice of lemon meringue tart should fit the bill. Try it with a shot of Lindisfarne mead – you'll even find a sparkling version on a drinks list that covers everything from local ales to New World wines and 'historic' cocktails.
