What did you do for your mother last Sunday??
Blackfriars Café Bar was completely
and utterly full on Mothering Sunday but if you missed
out, there’s still time to treat her.
Live Jazz every Sunday
Blackfriars puts on a fantastic Sunday
roast with live lazy jazz and some of the friendliest
staff in town, every single Sunday, and it’s a
great time to bring your mother… father…
brother… sister… dog or whoever!
And don’t forget, if you want us
to arrange something really special, then just ask –
we’re here to help.
Selling Sidney's by the pound!
You may have heard some rumours that Sidney’s
is up for sale. And we’re not ones to duck a question
- so is it true?
Well we’re weighing-up our options,
exploring some opportunities and looking at some new
projects. So I hope that’s cleared up everything
– nothing like a bit of straight talking is there!
And, needless to say, we’ll
still maintain our high standards so continue to expect
the best.

Out with the old.
As part of its ongoing refurbishments,
Blackfriars is selling a number of items including its
red designer sofa, retro 1950’s swivel seats,
coffee table and Bettina, our long-established assistant
manager. So if you want to put in a bid then please
send us an email: andy@sidneys.co.uk
(and yes, the last item isn’t really for sale!).
Are we telling you porkies?
No porkies here, just some porking good
ideas!
Pork, in fact, is an exceptionally important
meat around the world (except amongst Jewish and Muslim
communities) and the entire pig can be used –
as advocated by the French with their renowned Charcuterie.
Pies, brawn & rissoles
Blackfriars medieval English pork recipes included pies,
brawn and rissoles – often using suckling pigs.
Nowadays, most cuisines around the world
have their own fresh pork dishes, which often depend
on the use of aromatic or fruit flavourings.
At Blackfriars and Sidneys we use a host
of different flavourings – see our Gremolata
filled Pork fillet wrapped in Parma ham with goats'
cheese mash in the March recipe section.
