St Patrick's Night

Monday 17 March 2008
£35 per person for 3 courses, Black Velvet and Irish coffee.

Come and join us for a mouth-watering festive feast and a touch of the blarney to pay tribute to all things Irish.

Make a booking at Blackfriars this St. Patrick’s Day to enjoy a pint of the black stuff and some traditional Irish fayre!

Saint Patrick was kidnapped at the age of 16 by pirates and sold into slavery where during his 6-year captivity he found strength in his religious faith. After he escaped he studied religion in Europe then travelled to Ireland to spread the Christian word. He used the shamrock which resembles a three leaf clover as a metaphor to explain the concept of the trinity - father, son and Holy Spirit.

Legend has it that Saint Patrick drove all the snakes out of Ireland into the sea to drown as the snake was a revered pagan symbol.

Easter Weekend
22-23 March 2008

Easter Weekend

Easter, Pascha or Resurrection Day is the most important religious feast in the Christian liturgical year.

The ancient Saxons celebrated the return of spring with an uproarious festival commemorating their goddess of offspring and of springtime, Easter.

So wave goodbye to the abstinence of lent and see in the springtime with some indulgence at Blackfriars.

We are closed on Good Friday and Easter Monday but its business as usual on Easter Saturday and Sunday so book now to avoid disappointment!

Blackfriars bask in award-winning glory

Blackfriars bask in award-winning gloryBlackfriars is celebrating this month after scooping the award for ‘Best in Newcastle’ at the 23rd Annual Hi-Life Dining Awards.

The star studded Hi-Life ceremony, which took place at the Hilton in Manchester, was a celebration of the best of the dining industry across the North of England.

The award for ‘Best Newcastle Restaurant’, which listed an impressive array of the regions eateries, was won by Blackfriars, beating Newcastle’s Black Door Restaurant, Rockafella, Grainger Rooms and the Bridge Inn at Barnard Castle.

The Blackfriars team spent an enjoyable evening rubbing shoulders with the rich and famous and sat at a table sandwiched between Martin from Corrie and Slade front man Noddy Holder. There’s no business like show business!

The evening raised £6200 for The Christie Hospital in Manchester through a raffle and charity pledge auction.

And there’s more…!

Blackfriars has also retained its award for Best British Restaurant serving ‘Dinner with a Touch of Theatre’ for the second year running.

Last year the ceremony took place at London’s Old Vic Theatre and was presented by Hollywood actor Kevin Spacey.Spacey commented that “the judges were very impressed with the theatricality of the setting, which the owners balanced with great food.”

You heard it here first; Blackfriars Restaurant is a favourite with the Hollywood A-listers!
