The main 72 cover dining room now occupies the friary’s former refectory and has an upper and lower section, each sitting 36 diners.
It serves gutsy, traditional British food using seasonal produce from the local farms and producers.The restaurant also offers one of the most inexpensive and popular lunch and early evening set menus in town, as well as Sunday lunches, an award-winning wine list, and a large range of local ales and Scottish whisky.
Blackfriars is recognised by food critics across the country, having been awarded ‘Best restaurant in Newcastle’ by The Observer and Metro Newspaper, and has also gained an AA rosette as well as inclusion in the Which? Good Food Guide, Hardens and Michelin Guides.
